For international clients considering Georgian personal banking and an additional payment card.

Yes, American Express cards are available in Georgia through Bank of Georgia. For someone considering a second banking relationship outside the EU, that makes card choice part of the conversation as well as accounts and savings.

Is American Express available in Georgia?

American Express’s official Georgia website lists Bank of Georgia’s Blue, Green and Gold credit cards. The bank also describes a Platinum option within its premium banking offering.

This is not a first-time launch. Bank of Georgia announced its Amex Blue card in July 2010. The more recent change came on 25 July 2025, when the National Bank of Georgia reported that American Express was ready to work with other eligible Georgian financial institutions on card issuing and acquiring.

Opening the network does not mean every bank now offers an Amex card. If that card is important to your banking plans, confirm the issuing bank and the actual product before choosing an account.

What we can offer

As part of our Georgian banking service, we can help you check whether an Amex application is a realistic option and organise the banking documentation. The bank decides whether to issue the card and on what terms.

Which Georgian Amex cards are available?

The names will be familiar to many travellers, but Georgian-issued cards have their own terms. A Gold or Platinum card issued in Georgia should be assessed against its local product information.

Can a non-resident get an Amex card in Georgia?

A Georgian account and an Amex credit card require separate decisions. Having an account, or joining a premium banking package, does not establish that you qualify for credit.

The public sources above do not provide a universal non-resident approval route. We therefore check the current position with the bank for your circumstances before treating the card as an available option. Your nationality, residence, income and the evidence the bank accepts may affect the assessment.

If you are applying from abroad, useful questions include:

  • Does the bank accept card applications from people resident in my country?
  • Can my overseas salary, dividends or business income support the application, and what evidence is required?
  • Is a visit necessary, and can any stages be completed remotely?
  • Are there additional banking-package or security requirements for my profile?
  • Can I obtain the account without taking a credit card if the card application is declined?

Our guide to Georgian banking for non-residents covers the wider account-opening process. Card eligibility should be confirmed separately.

Rewards and travel: what is actually useful?

The Georgian Amex programme offers Membership Rewards and local redemption options. Check the Georgian programme’s rules rather than assuming the airline transfers, credits or promotions attached to an Amex card in another country also apply.

Bank of Georgia says its Amex cards can be used abroad and online where American Express is accepted. Acceptance is merchant-dependent, so an alternative Visa or Mastercard remains useful when travelling. Within Georgia, the bank’s published guide describes acceptance through Bank of Georgia terminals; check the current position as the wider network develops.

For cards with travel insurance, read the policy before relying on it. Check who is covered, the maximum trip length, exclusions and whether paying for the trip with that card is a condition of cover. A benefit that does not fit your travel habits may add little value.

Check the cost before choosing the card

Rewards are only one part of the decision. The official Blue, Green and Gold pages describe GEL-denominated card accounts, even if your wider banking relationship includes other currencies.

  • Card and banking fees. Establish the annual card cost and any package fee separately, including the conditions for discounts.
  • Repayment and interest. Ask for the effective annual rate, payment dates and the exact conditions for interest-free purchases. Paying only the minimum can leave interest payable.
  • Currency conversion. If you earn euros or pounds, understand the conversion rate and costs when spending or repaying in GEL. Exchange-rate movements can change the home-currency cost.
  • Cash withdrawals. Confirm the withdrawal fee and whether cash transactions receive the same treatment as purchases.
  • Reward value. Compare likely redemptions with the total annual cost, rather than choosing solely on the number of points advertised.

An Amex application is separate from a GEL savings deposit. Holding savings does not itself establish card eligibility, and deposit returns do not offset card borrowing costs automatically.

How Sovereignty Global can help

If American Express is one reason you are considering Georgia, tell us at the start. We can include card availability in the banking discussion rather than leaving it until after an account application.

Check the route with the bank

We discuss your residence and income profile, establish what needs confirming and check the bank’s current application requirements.

Prepare the relevant evidence

We help organise the banking file and the supporting information requested for the application. The bank may ask for further evidence during its review.

Review the offer before accepting

Where the bank offers a card, review its limit, fees and repayment terms alongside the account package. You decide whether the offer suits you.

We provide application and onboarding support; we do not issue American Express cards, set credit limits or guarantee approval. No American Express or Bank of Georgia affiliation is claimed by this article.

Common questions

Does every Georgian bank offer Amex?

No. The 2025 network announcement made participation available to eligible institutions; it did not confirm that every bank had launched a card. Bank of Georgia’s offering is documented in the official sources linked here.

Will I get the same benefits as a UK or US Amex?

Do not assume so. Review the Georgian-issued card’s rewards, insurance and other benefits under its own terms.

Can I get a Georgian Amex without relocating?

That needs an individual eligibility check. A non-resident banking application and a credit-card application are separate, and the sources reviewed do not establish a blanket entitlement for applicants living abroad.

Can Sovereignty Global arrange guaranteed approval?

No. We can help check the available route and prepare an application, but the bank retains the approval decision.
